After Thailand’s general election on March 24th, 2019, Future Forward Party member Pakornwut Udompipatskul — a known supporter of blockchain technology and Bitcoin — was elected as MP into the Lower House of Representatives.
With a pro-blockchain legislator in the National Assembly of Thailand, industry stakeholders are closely following developments in the country for signs of blockchain and cryptocurrency support in the coming administration.
According to local crypto news outlet Siam Blockchain, newly-elected Representative Pakornwut Udompipatskul posted online a group photograph of the Future Forward Party MPs who joined a recent meeting at the House of Representatives.
Developers and experts in the blockchain ecosystem have recognized the MP as a supporter of the technology. Prior to his election, Pakornwut was the founder of Bitcoin Center Thailand, a learning center that provided courses in blockchain and cryptocurrency-related skills while serving as a hub for the growing community of crypto enthusiasts.
As part of a new generation of Thai lawmakers, Pakornwut is expected to further drive the development of blockchain and crypto in the country.
He previously urged the Thai government to adopt blockchain as a common platform for public data to promote transparency and accessibility. According to his Facebook post, the MP stated:
“As a co-founder and CEO of Bitcoin Center Thailand, the country’s first blockchain learning center, I had the opportunity to work in this industry and gave talks on blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Technology can be used to make the world a better place if we handle it well. With technology, we can solve problems efficiently and offer more convenience to citizens.”
