Ripple has allied with other 10 prominent universities to execute its blockchain research program.

The report released on Thursday by the blockchain payments infrastructure firm, Ripple, said that the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) aims to help advance the blockchain technology ecosystem.

The universities that joined the initiative include Carnegie Mellon, Morgan State, Cornell, Duke, Georgetown, University of Kansas, University of Michigan, and Northeastern University in the United States, as well as the National University of Singapore and the University of Sao Paulo internationally.

Earlier last month, Ripple also partnered under the initiative with the Institute for Fintech Research (THUIFR) at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

The institutions intend to perform research with resources provided by Ripple’s UBRI. They expect to develop and launch course material, host conferences, and award scholarships to students pursuing studies in blockchain, cryptocurrency, digital payments, and related subjects.

Resource Allocation

The University of Sao Paulo will be allocated funding for a blockchain innovation program, while Duke and Georgetown will be in charge of “expanding curriculum and research, teaching, and technical projects and collaboration across disciplines.”

Following the new additions, the firm has now partnered with about 29 universities.

Ripple launched the initiative in June 2018, investing over $50 million in the effort and at the time, partnering with 17 universities from around the globe.

Eric van Miltenburg, Ripple’s SVP of global operations, proclaimed after making the announcement on Thursday that in just under one year since the launch, the initial UBRI partners set the ball rolling with the launch of new research projects, events, course offerings, and more. He also said that building up the ecosystem to a more global, diversified network of UBRI partners will never stop enriching these projects.
